Comcast Corp. has developed new technology, DOCSIS 3.0, that enables data to be downloaded at 150 megabits per second, which is 25 times faster than the current cable modems.
It is predicted that the modems will be available in a couple of years and the cost will be similar to todayís modem costs.
Comcast Corps. Chief Executive, Robert Stanzione downloaded the 32-volume Encyclopedia Britannica 2007 and the Merriam-Websterís visual dictionary in less than 4 minutes. As an example, a current modem would take 3 hours and 12 minutes to download the same data.
